Hunting for WWII Munitions in German Waters

3 min

Available until 01/11/2025

There is an estimated 300,000 tonnes of WWII munitions lying at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Now corroding, they pose an urgent environmental risk to the wildlife. Thanks to a €100 million German-funded emergency programme, scientists and engineers are now locating and recovering these deadly remnants – but time is running out.
