When six-month-old Victoria is wheeled through Madrid’s Retiro Park, she’s also a small symbol of change. In Spain, parental leave has just been extended from 16 to 19 weeks—and since 2021, both mothers and fathers have had exactly the same amount of time at home with their child. Unlike in France or Germany, this equal leave is reshaping the way men take part in raising their children.
