Do European public media have a future?

Faced with disinformation, political interference, and declining funding, European public media are in crisis. Despite this, they paradoxically continue to enjoy support from citizens. To protect their independence, the European Union adopted the Media Freedom Act in 2025, which requires Member States to ensure governance safeguards and stable funding.
