There are only around 60,000 Ukrainian refugees in Hungary, far fewer than the estimated two million who fled to neighbouring Poland to escape the war. Viktor Orbán’s government has made no secret of its pro-Russian stance and is also exploiting anti-Ukrainian sentiment in its campaign for the April 2026 parliamentary elections.
